VA Workers Told To Work Overtime to Clear Claims Backlog

It is no secret that the VA has been backlogged with disability claims. In order to remedy the problem, many workers have been told to work overtime this summer. The 10,000 employees are approved to work up to 20 hours of overtime each month to clear the backlog. Currently, there are 567,000 disability claims that need to be decided upon. The average wait for a claim to be processed is currently nine months which is completely unacceptable for our nation’s veterans. VA officials hope that the mandatory overtime will help clear the backlog by 2015. This will be done with new technology and systems in addition to the required overtime. Read the full article here:
