VA outreach lags as many veterans are unaware of benefits

Recent studies show that over 40% of post-9/11 veterans are unaware of the benefits available to them, including life insurance, education, and health care benefits. Traditionally, some branches of the service require members to go through benefits classes upon retirement, but that varies. A new law now mandates that all service members go through these courses, which will double the participants. There have been several reported barriers for service members, including location (geography) and the complexity of VA programs. This is especially true for those veterans who served between World War II and the Persian Gulf War. As a result, the VA is establishing new programs to better serve our veterans and to make information simple and easy to process.
