Retirees far from bases to lose Tricare Prime

On October 1, 2013, military retirees, their family members, and survivors who live more than 40 miles outside of a military treatment facility will no longer have access to Tricare Prime insurance. This will affect over 170,000 enrollees across the nation who will be forced to use Tricare Standard, the military’s fee-for-service health insurance option, and cause higher out of pocket expenses.
